Postpartum Bleeding, aka lochia
The bleedings source is a wound on the inside of your very muscular and rockstar uterus where the placenta was attached. When the placenta separates from the uterine wall, the bleeding starts.
The bleeding, also known as lochia, can continue for as little as two weeks, and could last for as long as 10 weeks. Your friend who had their baby a few months ago who stopped bleeding before her baby turned 2 weeks- don't consider her the gold standard for length of bleeding.
Your bleeding may:
•stop then start again
•rollercoaster" from mild to heavy and back to mild
•change in consistency (ie- clots, stringy pieces,
mucous like, etc)
•change in color (red, pink, brown or white)
Your bleeding correlates mainly with uterine muscle tone and activity. The more you move, the more you bleed.
Trust your body and it's ability to heal. Give your body whatever length of time it needs to bleed to fully heal your incredible uterus and self.
